Canada's stocks in the materials, energy and REIT sectors were well-positioned on Friday, driving the stock's growth. The S&P/TSX Composite is up 0.67% in Toronto.
The session's top gainer on the S&P/TSX Composite was Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which closed up 6.21%, or 0.43 points, at 7.35.
New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 6.10%, or 0.05 points, to end 0.87, and B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) added 5.94%, or 0.23 points, to 4.10 in late trading.
The shareholders of TELUS Corp (TSX: T) (NYSE: TU) and LifeWorks Inc. (TSX: LWRK) have agreed to a merger by plan of arrangement.
Each share of LifeWorks will be exchanged for 0.5321 shares of TELUS and C$16.50 cash. LifeWorks will be removed from the S&P/TSX Composite Index prior to the open of trading on September 7, 2022
The outstanding shares of TELUS will be increased across all S&P/TSX indices at the same time to enable the issuance of shares. and all new shares outstanding will be 1,412,706,694 and IWF will remain 1.
